A Journey of Resilience, Transformation, and Purpose
Tim’s journey is one of profound resilience, transformation, and self-discovery. Born with Gros Talipes, a severe disability that left his feet at 90-degree angles to his legs, Tim faced immense physical challenges from the start. Despite undergoing 59 anaesthetic procedures to correct his condition, his determination to succeed never wavered.
In his 20s and 30s, Tim achieved significant success in corporate finance and financial software, enjoying a fast-paced, high-profile career that took him around the globe. However, beneath the surface of his outward success, he struggled with personal demons based around feeling separated and different to everyone else. All through his 20s and 30s, the pressures of his lifestyle led to a very fast-paced sales and social life, and his health began to decline rapidly. At 38, he faced a turning point when he collapsed at Belfast airport on the way to a client meeting, experiencing a suspected heart attack. Even after intensive hospital treatment, Tim felt trapped in his relentless pursuit of success, fulfilment and happiness.
Everything changed in 2013, when at the age of 41, Tim received a life-altering phone call from a canoeing coach inviting him to train as a Paralympic athlete. Though he hadn’t paddled since his competitive canoeing days as a teenager, Tim embraced the challenge with the same determination that had defined his life.
This chapter of Tim’s life is not just about achieving the unimaginable; it’s a story of coming full circle, finding self-acceptance, and discovering a deeper purpose. From an unhealthy 41-year-old sales director to a decorated Paralympic athlete, Tim’s transformation has been nothing short of extraordinary. Over the last decade, he has dedicated himself to transforming his mindset and health, gaining clarity and insight that have reshaped his life.
Tim’s journey was never truly about winning medals or seeking external gratification. While the opportunity to train as a Paralympic athlete initially appeared to be a chance for personal glory, it's now become clear that the canoeing path was brought into Tim’s life for a much deeper purpose.
This journey was about gaining clarity, self-awareness, and a profound understanding of his own struggles, so that he could turn his experiences into a powerful tool to help others. It was through the trials of his athletic training and the inner work that followed that Tim discovered his true calling: to guide others in overcoming their own barriers, using the lessons drawn from his life of resilience, transformation, and self-acceptance.
